About us

Here at Livedale we pride ourselves on offering a friendly and flexible service, making us easy to deal with. We try to offer not just the fast moving popular lines, but also the items which are not used so often but which however, are still needed from time to time and also by the traditional upholsterer. The number of lines in our catalogue grows year on year, due to a large part from listening to our customers and responding to their needs. We often are able to source items for our customers which are not in our catalogue but we obtain for them if we are able these often end up in the next edition of our catalogue.

 

We are still a family run company who, try to treat our customers as we like to be treated, as a person and not just an account number. Our customer base is vary varied, and consists of companies of different sizes. We do however, value all our customers and offer the same service to all. Many of our customers are owner proprietor operating from home, but they would still get the same welcome when they placed a small order as the customer who are about to place an order worth considerably more, as to us all customers are equally important.

 

History

Livedale Foam & Sundries Ltd. was started in 1960 by 5 partners all ex Dunlop employees who were involved in the early stages of foam development. At that time the company was called Livedale Manufacturing, as when they started the company was manufacturing foam blocks, it was only after a few years that they ceased manufacturing their own foam and became solely foam converters.

 

Over the years the company continued to supply the upholstery trade with foam building up a very regular and loyal customer base. However, by 1993 only 2 of the partners remained, and at that time one of the last partners sold is share to the other partner’s son in law. This partnership continued until 1997 when the last of the original partner’s retired and sold his share to his daughter, who was now working in the business. At this point the company became a husband & wife team.

 

In 2003 the company incorporated and decided at that time to change its name so as to give an indication as to what the business does. One of the present owner’s sons, Matthew

joined the business in 2000 so it really is a family business, and today Matthew is a director and shareholder in the business.

 

In approximately 1997 Livedale started to sell a small range of upholstery sundries, that range has grown considerably over the years and now it compliments the foam conversion as a major part of the business, for which we now produce a new full colour catalogue every year.

 

By 2011 it became obvious that Livedale had outgrown their Farnworth premises and so started the search for new larger premises. We were fortunate enough to find a brand new factory building which had been completed only as far as the outer shell, and we were able to purchase the building and fit it out internally to meet our own requirements. Once the work was all finished we made arrangements and moved into our new premises during the first week in May2012. Once in the new factory we had the space for an additional cutting machine, and we ordered a new contour cutting machine, this was installed during October,  In May 2014 we also moved into the property next door giving a total of about 12,500sq feet.

With more new machinery ordered at that time we have been able to increase our capacity considerably.
